Few days back (m not sure was it 2 0r 3 days back, we had another early morning run at Serasa. The crew with the exception for Salir, aha,...and the guys, mainly Ros Edwin and Jai joined us. I arrived there at about 7am whilst Ros and Aizo came earlier. The guys were trying their luck too to catch Mangrove Jacks after a lot of fuss heard from the area of people getting MJs like almost everyday weeks back. Probably its Mangrove Jack Hunting Season hehe. The 3 of us set up our kirikans with kembura being the baits as usual. I could say, what ever happened on that day was really amusing...laughters filled the atmosphere on our part of the hunting ground. It was all due to one man, Ros. Haha I'd really have to say, he never fails to amuse me...That day his kirikan was struck first and almost got a fish, accidentally. why u might asked? Haha well he was pulling back his line as he made a bad throw earlier and while retriving, this fish came plunging like a torpedo onto his bait, it was so visible that at that point it made him became a it panicky and retrieved his line even faster. The fish didn't get hooked yet but evenso it was still visible that it was still attempting to plunge the bait. It gave another plunge on his bait, and finally it seemed to have been hooked. Slowly Ros retrieved it, until it reached the rocks. This is the accidental part here, he pulled it trying to get it on the rocks nearer to us, with him shouting telling us to help him get the fish. Aizo came with a bucket, but when he tried to pull it up further near us, suddenly the damn fish let go of the bait and jumped into this medium sized ledge filled with water and Aizo tried to capture it using a bucket, haha Thats a bucket man not a net haha...eventually the fish got smart and manage to escape by going in between the rocks...n yea there was no way we were able to get it, it was a barracuda btw, and yea who in the right mind would wana try and catch it barehanded, not with its numerous sharp teeth around.
Jai and Edwin came by later on and set up their kirikan. Jai tried a new method, it was sumtin like a cross-over of Casting and using kirikanz hehe i guess its calle castrikanz kali haha... he used this rubber frog lodged with a hook and he threw the line and retrieved it slowly as if he was casting. Anyways the other kirikanz with the mullet occasionally gets eaten and on some of our kirikanz did show the possibility of hooking up a fish but eventually in some cases the fish let go or our lines getting stuck on the rocks underwater. Ros did get get another alert when his line was seen pulled so hard but tough luck the line got tangled to something or probably the hook got stuck, nevertheless the fish was lost.
My first MJ from Serasa
As we were waiting for any bites on our lines, I noticed that one of my lines was getting tighter, which eventually was pulled as the line kept being pulled out further into the water. There was no mistaken it was a fish and hooked. I pulled the line as quick as I can to prevent the fish from trying to hide under the rocks which can make them hard to get and finally getting the line stuck instead. Pulled it hard, it gave really a good fight, but finally I got it. It was worth it despite getting cuts on your fingers, but that don't matter. It was an MJ, medium sized one which I could say only was about 500g+...But still I was rather excited coz that was my first using the Kirikan and at Serasa. You can see from the picture above on my facial expression, that was me holding back the tears of joy HAHAHA..But I know that hasn't beat the other crew members catch yet but I will keep on trying...hehe We continued to try our luck until we ran out of Kembura. Initially, we guys decided to stay a bit longer since the weather was ok not that hot and sunny..so Aizo and Jai decided to check the mfish market for more Kembura. But then, none were sold at the markets so it was finally a wrap. We packed up our stuffs and left Serasa at about 10am. It was fun, especially with the presence of the other guys, and guys, lets have another fishy outing like that..thats all for now happy fishing, Selamat HariRaya AidilAdha, and happy holidays
